On Saturday, our African American Advisory Group met at Gregory’s to connect, listen, and gather insights on the pulse of Black Lansing.
We were honored to be joined by Willie Barney, Founder and CEO of the Empowerment Network in Omaha. His organization has been nationally recognized by the Obama Foundation for its success in reducing gun violence. Willie led a powerful discussion with Black leaders from across Lansing, representing a wide range of sectors and experiences.
Together, we reflected on our city’s strengths, named the challenges we face, and began mapping out opportunities for collective progress. The energy in the room was rooted in empowerment, unity, and deep commitment to the community. There was a clear and shared belief that collaboration is key to moving Lansing forward.
Looking ahead, our strategy sessions will continue to focus on real solutions. We will dig deeper into this work through efforts like C2C, Step Up, housing initiatives, and monthly African American Advisory meetings.
We’re grateful for the voices in the room and the momentum building toward lasting impact. This is how change begins, together.
